Thunderstorms: Know the Facts, Be Prepared

Though thunderstorms generally arent as serious of a storm as a tropical storm, hurricane, or tornado, it doesnt mean they're not dangerous! The best way to be safe is to be informed, keep these facts in mind when a thunderstorm approaches:
- If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to the storm to be struck by lightning. Just because it seems far, doesn't mean it is!
- If you are driving, be wary of torrential rains that come with these storms. If you notice the rain picking up, pull off the road and park. Avoid touching metal or other surfaces that conduct electricity in and outside of the vehicle.
- If you are inside, you should try yo avoid taking a bath or shower, or running water. Water is a great conductor of electricity so you must be extra cautious.
- If you are caught outside and cannot find a safe place to shelter, avoid high ground, water, and any tall or isolated objects.
