Fireplace Safety Tips

As winter quickly approaches and the weather starts to get cold, keep these potentially lifesaving fireplace safety tips in mind.
- Only Burn Dry Wood - Wood should be dried for 8 to 12 months before burning.
- Burn Only Fire Wood - Though you may be tempted to burn other types of wood (old pallets, crates, painted wood, etc.) these woods can contain dangerous and flammable chemicals.
- Install CO2 and Fire Detectors - Though you may see or smell a fire, CO2 is a silent and odorless killer. It’s very important to have detectors for both of these things – it could save your life!
- Get Your Chimney Cleaned - Soot builds up in chimneys very quickly. If you use your chimney consistently for the cold months, make sure to get it cleaned twice a year to prevent fires.
These tips can help to save your home from a fire.
